Stack Wiring

Finished with all the normal audio lines for 3 radios:

-COM1 (VAL COM 2000)

-COM2 (SL-40)

-NAV1 (VAL NAV 2000)

Wired up headset and microphone for Pilot position

Temporarily wired in a pilot PTT button so I could test the radios.

Transmit on COM1 with no speech puts the current draw at about 4.6A.

More Stack Wiring on the bench

Continued with wiring of local wires in the stack on the bench, testing as I go.

All 3 radios connected re: audio. Tested NAV reception on local ILS system and closest VOR. Looks good.

Currently drawing about 1.45A , receiving only.

Wasted one VP-X terminal in a crimp test after slight filing of crimper.

Wired power to transponder, just to see what the whole stack looks like in receive mode only.

Stack – Continued

I made up a short (6″) RG-400 pigtail for the SL-40 tray.

I replaced the outdoor VOR test antenna with a VHF COM test antenna.

Wired audio and power up to the VAL 2000 (COM1) & tested it. Sounds better than the SL-40.

Stack Wiring

Set up & started, sort of checking things as I go along. Easier to correct anything on the bench.

And to close out the first day, wired pilot side headset jack and enough power in to hear first audio through the audio panel from COM2 (SL-40).

New Stack – Test Fit

The rear support for the part that protrudes through the sub-panel will be integrated with the VPX/ADSB support brackets. Also a small fan for cooling air to transponder will be mounted here.

I did pretty good at getting the faces aligned and plan to have a bezel that will match the monitor bezel.

This is the material I ordered to make bezels from. One side is textured, the other side smooth.
